Case Study : Emergency Incident Response in Ireland
Digital Assurance was asked to attend a client site in Ireland who had suffered a major outage of critical internal systems due to a previous employee's malicious activities. The organisation's perimeter had been breached by a technically competent ex-member of Staff who had modified the configuration of a number of systems, resulting in a loss of availability during peak office hours.
Clearly, time was of the essence and it took less than four hours from first contact to being onsite in the Republic of Ireland. This rapid reaction ensured that Digital Assurance could assist with identifying the route that the hacker used to gain unauthorised entry to the organisation, mitigating the weaknesses that had been exploited and ensuring that no other routes could be used to gain access. Additionally, we conducted a review of the internal systems to ensure that the level of security within the organisation was increased ensuring maximum defence in depth.
The quick response and near-immediate technical assistance provided assurance to the organisation that their perimeter could not be exploited to gain any further remote access and our report provided recommendations and advice on how to avoid the situation arising again.
